Yesterday was a very long day. The race on the weekend was easier. 11 hrs on our feet.
We started early to line up for the hike up to the 2nd platform of the Tower. Got to the ticket line just after 9am and only a dozen or so a head of us.
Once the gate opened we paid and started the ascent, did not take us long to get to the first platform and we decided to keep ahead of the crowds and go straight up to the 2nd. It is a long climb but we are fit-fit-fit.
The views were awesome, there was haze or maybe smog hanging about so the actual distance one could see was impaired.
It was great picking out the familiar landmarks/buildings we had been to and to realize just how much we have covered walking 3 full days.
Once we descended, we hopped on bus and went back to Notre Dame Cathedral for a bit. Visited lle St. louis (small island) and enjoyed pastry and coffee in the sun.
Then off to the Pompidou Center (museum) to view some contemporary art works. From there we headed to the Latin quarter, hung out for a bit getting frustrated with the hours the restaurants are open/closed and then the lack of service when we found one that did not close at 3pm. Anyhow, finally a bar that served great grilled sandwiches.
After refueling we hopped on the bus again and journeyed back to the arc de triomphe and champs de eleese where we once again paid for the priviledge of climbing some 284 steps to the top. Views were stunning and quite frankly better than from the tower.
One last long walk down George the 5th 'til we found rue cler and took in the sights and sounds of this little but hectic market street.
Finally, 8pm, when the restaurant we wished to dine at opened. After aperitifs, we enjoyed risotto and grilled scallops, spring rolls, pasta, and the desert of 3 little jars of different flavored rice pudding.
The food was fantastic, the service terrible. we sat for 25min before they took our order. We had to ask for bread that seem to appear at other tables when they were sat. And at 25min after asking for our bill we seriously thought just to dash. They were lucky I did not have correct change and got a measly tip as there was no way once we got our bill we were going to wait for cc machine.
